More about this item:
This is a really interesting piece of Chantrell artwork that shows the complex genesis of a Chantrell quad poster. To begin with we show the artwork (with acetate overlay) & the finished quad for comparison. This "X" rated double-bill was released in 1978.
The composition is interesting as the left hand side of the poster is essentially photographic whilst the right hand is all hand-drawn/painted by Chantrell. In just one poster design, we can see the range of the artist & his ability to transcend both traditional & modern forms of poster design. Both elements have been applied to artboard. Overlaying the artboard is an acetate sheet, upon which the film titles & other text have been positioned. A second overlay (tracing paper) is also present (shown below). This overlay has been marked up by Chantrell with instructions to the printers & most importantly, colour directions (see the green & orange tabs). This shows that although Chantrell created a b/w artwork, he was "thinking" in colour. A third paper overlay is also attached (not shown) with further hand-written annotations by Chantrell. The whole piece provides a great snapshot as to how quad posters were created & underlies not only what a versatile artist Chantrell was but his complete understanding of the technicalities of his craft.
The artwork is large measuring 19"x 26" & a supplementary P&P charge will be required unless you wish to collect in person.
