More about this item:
An attractive piece of original Chantrell painted artwork for "Kill Or Be Killed" (1977). This is a prototype design but although quite advanced in "finished" form, it probably remained unused. This South African martial arts made film has cult status, the Karate featured being authentic. The film was definitely a low budget B-movie with an implausible plot featuring the SS, WWII Japanese & an international martial arts tournament.
Though Chantrell's rough has certain appeal (vibrant colour, action & a breast threatening to break loose), a more martial arts themed design might have been preferred. We are unsure, however, if this commission was ever completed & although the film was released in the USA, it is doubtful whether this delightful hokum ever hit British cinemas. A nice example of the kind of exploitation fare that Chantrell often worked on once he turned freelance in the early 1970's. The artwork is applied direct to artboard (14"x 18").
